Definition:

expressing wish for safe journey: used to wish somebody a safe trip or successful endeavor ( dated )

This piece is called "Godspeed" and is sometimes referred to "As A Lady's Favour".

It was done in 1900. Location unknown. Edmund Blair Leighton (1853-1922) was a Pre-Raphaelite painter from London. The son of a painter, he had a special technique and style that no other artist has been able to replicate.

~ In the early centuries, when the Warrior would go to war, his lady would tie her scarf around his arm so that he may bring it back to her after the war. These warriors held onto their scarves with their lives. A gesture of love and faith from his loved one to assure his return~

Another Tale ~ Courtly love soon became part of the tales of King Arthur and his knights. It was already part of the idea of chivalry (what it meant to be a perfect knight) that a knight should defend women and keep them from harm. According to the troubadours, a man in love must do everything he can to make himself worthy of his lady. So now there was a new feeling that knightly deeds could be performed in order to gain a lady's love. This is why a knight fighting in a tournament often wore a 'favour' (such as a scarf or flower) from his lady, to show that everything he did on the field of battle was to win her love and admiration.

What happened to Chivalry and True Love~

I thought of our Troops and my friends who are wives of our men fighting in battle as we speak. I dedicate this token of my respect to the love that makes our Men and Woman strong to fight for our Freedoms~
